Visual Information

Client: Erie VA Medical Center

Role: Designer

Deliverable: Informational booklet

Overview

The Erie VA Town Hall booklet was designed to communicate vital updates to patients about clinic modernization, upcoming construction, staffing changes, and available programs and services. The goal was to create a clear, accessible publication that informed and reassured the community while reinforcing the Erie VA’s mission and commitment to quality care.

My Role

Designer: Led the layout and visual design of the booklet.

Visual Information Design: Translated complex updates and departmental details into clear, reader-friendly layouts.

Photography Selection: Curated local imagery to enhance authenticity and patient connection.

Production Coordination: Managed design delivery under a tight timeline.

Design Approach

The design centered on clarity, trust, and connection. Visual hierarchy was used to organize dense content, ensuring that key updates and timelines were easy to find. A structured grid layout and consistent typographic system created visual rhythm, while local photography reinforced a sense of familiarity and community engagement.

Collaboration and Process

Collaboration with executive leadership and department chiefs was essential for content accuracy and approval. After receiving finalized copy, I developed multiple layout options to balance text-heavy sections with visual elements. Iterative feedback sessions helped refine content flow for final approval. I also worked closely with the reproduction team to ensure all printed deliverables were produced on time, color-accurate, and aligned with design specifications. This streamlined communication helped maintain efficiency and quality under a tight turnaround.

Reflection

This project strengthened my ability to design under pressure while maintaining precision and clarity. I learned how thoughtful information design paired with visual storytelling can ease communication challenges, foster trust, and connect audiences to institutional goals.
